📅 January 16 – 24
📍 Downtown Bucerias
Join us for the Bucerías Our Lady of Peace festival, a celebration spanning 9 days in honor of the city’s patron saint and protector. Commencing on January 16, the festival kicks off each morning with the resounding echo of cannons, signaling the beginning of the day’s festivities. From beauty contests to dancing horses, clown shows, and live music featuring genres like norteña and banda, the Fiestas Patronales promise something for everyone. The culmination of this vibrant celebration occurs on January 24 with the Blessing of the Boats.
Undoubtedly the highlight of the week, the Blessing of the Boats schedule is an event you won’t want to miss. On the 24th, a pilgrimage of decorated fishing boats sails from La Cruz de Huanacaxtle to Bucerías, symbolizing the unity of the coastal community. The climax of this maritime procession is a mass held in honor of the Virgin at the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Paz. During this celebration, fishermen from the southern coastal region of Nayarit gather to offer prayers for a prosperous year ahead—be it in fishing, tourism, health, or overall well-being. It’s a poignant moment of reflection and unity as the community comes together to seek blessings for the upcoming year.
If you are staying in the area, please be aware that the festivities might bring an increase in noise levels in the area, especially during live performances in the main plaza or the Sports Complex in La Unidad. We appreciate your understanding and invite you to join in the local celebration, experiencing the unique charm that defines Bucerias.
