So you’ve decided you want a taco—more specifically, you want one of the best fish tacos in Puerto Vallarta and Bucerias. You’re in luck because there are tons of delicious options to choose from. You can find grilled or batter-fried, Nayarit or Ensenada style fish tacos, but you’ll need to choose wisely.
A good fish taco is a fresh and invigorating treat, but there are many restaurants that have mediocre or just plain bad versions. To save you from possible disappointment, we offer you our favorite spots for fish tacos in the bay.
El Refugio de Lupita
These fish tacos are delightfully fluffy and the outside street patio is beautifully decorated. Also, make sure to try their Poblano cheesecake. They have a great Happy hour from 1-5 pm with 2×1 margaritas at ~$80 MXN.

The Snack Bar
This is one of our favorite spots in Bucerias. It is on the main square, above the Kiosko corner store. It has a great view of the main square and the ocean, which makes it great for people watching. Their fish tacos are deliciously crunchy, and they have a great sauce.
The beers are always ice cold and they have a very good happy hour. If you want to try something else, their Red Aguachile shrimp dish is amazing.

Mr. and Mrs. Fish
Mr and Mrs Fish in Bucerias have the choice of battered and fried or grilled dorado (Mahi Mahi). There is a selection of 3 sauces and they are served with coleslaw.

The Fat Boy Seafood
Very good food, large portions, friendly waiters, and fair prices. My favorite dish here (other than the fish and shrimp tacos) is the garlic octopus. It is located inside the Bucerias Artisan Market, right on the beach with a great view of the bay… perfect for a sunset dinner!

El Tacon de Marlin
BONUS: Although they do not serve tacos, these marlin burritos are out of this world. It is across the street from the airport, so I highly recommend eating here when you arrive (plus it is right in front of the airport’s Uber pick-up spot) or before you leave.
You can also choose to fill your burrito with shrimp, crab, or octopus. All of their salsas are amazing, so make sure to try them all before deciding on one. Each burrito costs around $100 MXN, and it is cash-only.

La Negra
This very trendy and eclectic restaurant is in the oldest building of the neighborhood, under a huge tree. Their marlin tacos are delicious, and I also love to get their pancita tacos (pork belly). My other favorite thing to order is the Seared Tuna Steak Burger – amazing!
They also have great cocktails, Mexican craft beers, and Mezcal. It is vegetarian-friendly and great for dinner or a late-night drink. It is slightly more expensive than other restaurants in the area but well worth it.
