Furnishing a Property in Mexico (with Vacation Rental Inventory Checklist)

So you’ve purchased your beach property in Mexico, congrats! Now the fun part!

You’ll find that Mexico has some great deals and the cost of supplies can be low, but other things can be quite expensive. Below is our vacation rental inventory checklist of recommended furnishings and supplies that rental properties should have, as well as some of the best places to buy furniture in Mexico.

Where to Buy Furniture in Mexico

Furniture in Mexico is not like what you will find back home. Prices are really all over the place, and the quality can vary a lot. HOWEVER! There are the stores that you are used to, you just won’t find the same wide selection. You will most likely find that patio furniture is your biggest expense, at least in the Puerto Vallarta region.

Places like Liverpool, Sears, and Palacio de Hierro will all have a nice selection of furniture and appliances but they tend to be expensive. Also make sure to ask about their delivery times, as things can be back-ordered. On the other side of the spectrum would be Facebook marketplace, which works like Craigslist. If you feel up for it, some great, local items can be found!

Interior Design & Furnishing Services

We recommend Lauren at Pacifica Design Services or Lisa at Cielo Azul for interior design services. Solutions Mexico can also help you furnish your home.

Look for materials and fabrics that will be able to handle above-average wear and tear (and humidity!). Leather will hold up well, or you should find a sofa that has removable cushion covers. Upholstery, in general, should be durable – avoid upholstered dining chairs at all costs!

Custom Furniture Stores

You might even find independent furniture stores that can create custom furniture for you, depending on your needs and color/upholstery specifications. That being said, finding a good, reliable, and punctual carpenter for furniture or kitchen cabinetry can be a real challenge.

You can find custom furniture solutions and carpenters that can make chairs, tables, doors, anything you need! We can’t say it’s cheaper, but if you have a small space, it can be worth building the perfectly fitted item.
