Riviera Nayarit Motorcycle Route
This is an easy drive, and you can stop at any of the beaches along the way. Our favorites are Punta Mita Beach (it has a small and easy wave to learn how to surf), Litibu (an expansive beach with great waves and almost no people), and Playa Los Muertos (a small beach near Sayulita with a cemetery and a great michelada stand). You may even want to do the Monkey Mountain hike while you are in that area, but it will take 3-4 hours. The route ends at Sayulita, where you can grab a bite to eat or a refreshing drink. We would recommend using the same route to return using the back roads, as the Federal Highway 200 is heavily transited and can be dangerous with a lot of curves.
San Sebastian Motorcycle Route
Go from sea-level to 1480 m (4855 ft) within 2 hours. The road is very curvy and has some potholes, so we would only recommend this route to experienced drivers. Before arriving to San Sebastian, stop at Hacienda Don Lalin, a local distillery that overlooks the Progreso Bridge over San Sebastian canyon. Once you arrive to San Sebastian del Oeste, check out our day trip guide.
South Shore Motorcycle Route
Make your way to Puerto Vallarta, and then grab the Federal Highway 200. It is very curvy since it hugs the coastline, but it offers some amazing views along the way. Stop at the Punta Negra local beach restaurant for a casual bite to eat, and then continue to the Los Arcos viewpoint. We recommend ending the route at the Vallarta Botanical Garden. It is an ecological park that has multiple hiking trails and winding mountain walkways that showcase orchids, butterflies, and hummingbirds across its 79 acres.
